What is Airsoft? First and foremost Airsoft is great fun. As a game it is similar in structure to paintball. There are several game types though almost all are team based. Two most played game types are "Capture the Flag" and "Base Defence" both of which work that same way as they do in paintball.

The key difference between Paintball and Airsoft, is that you will be shooting plastic or rubber pellets as opposed to Paint Balls. The guns or models used in Airsoft are also designed to replicate real life weapons, unlike the guns used for Paintball.

The games rely on personal honor to keep things running smoothly as a player who is hit must "own up" to being hit.

Why not just play Paintball? As far as we are concerned Airsoft has a few key advantages over Paintball. The first of those advantages is cost. Airsoft BB's or Pellets are cheaper than paintballs. The weapons and protective clothing are also less expensive than their Paintball counter parts.

The second thing that Airsoft has over Paintball is that the weapons are more realistic. Airsoft weapons usually come in the form of replica's of real life weapons. For example, if you have always thought that an M-16 Assault Rifle would be cool to own, then why not have one? You can buy a very accurate replica of an M-16 in Airsoft form that will look just like the real thing.

The third and most important factor is tactics. Because Airsoft is more realistic than Paintball and has a wider variety of differing weapons, tactics become far more important. In Paintball a rush on an enemy position is often very effective. In Airsoft this will usually be met with a barrage of Automatic weapon fire.

Is Airsoft dangerous? In the wrong hands a feather duster can be a dangerous thing. With that said there is almost no danger attached to Airsoft. With the correct protective clothing the chances are that you will not wound anything but your pride by playing Airsoft. Most airsoft injuries happen when players trip and fall while running through woodland areas. The vast majority of injuries are twisted ankles and sprained wrists.
